Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport T3 Terminal is one of the largest airport expansion projects in the world. Located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, the terminal has a total construction area of about 680,000 square meters. When completed, the airport will operate with five runways and three terminals, with an annual passenger capacity of around 120 million travelers.

Application of Aluminum Materials
Aluminum ceiling panels and aluminum strip ceiling panels are widely used in both the exterior and interior areas. On the roof and eaves, linear aluminum strips create flowing lines that resemble flower petals. Inside the terminal, aluminum ceiling panels are used in check-in halls, waiting areas, and corridors, providing a clean and modern appearance while ensuring durability and easy maintenance.

The project presented several technical challenges, including a very large building scale, complex curved surfaces, and strict installation precision requirements. The dense network of mechanical and electrical systems also required careful coordination with ceiling installations.
To improve efficiency, a factory prefabrication and on‑site assembly method was adopted. Aluminum components were produced and pre‑assembled in the factory before installation. BIM modeling was also used to coordinate ceiling systems with utility lines. These measures significantly improved installation accuracy and construction speed.
This project demonstrates how aluminum architectural materials can meet the demanding requirements of large transportation hubs.
